Dragon Parade to fire up St David’s Day celebrations
If you’re looking for a fun way to join in the St David’s Day celebrations this year, head to Britain’s smallest city on Saturday 2 March for the annual Dragon Parade.
The 11am procession, which is organised by Oriel y Parc, National Park Discovery Centre, will see local school pupils and care in the community members and their dazzling dragons walk down the High Street, supported by the Samba Doc – Pembrokeshire’s Community Samba Band.
Pupils from Ysgol Penrhyn Dewi, Ysgol Ger y Llan, Holy Name Catholic Primary School and Cylch Croesgoch Playgroup will also be joined by the Mayor of St Davids.
Oriel y Parc Manager Rachel Perkins said:
“It’s been wonderful to see the dragon and decorative dragon egg designs coming to life during the free workshops for local schools delivered by artist, Kate Evans. On 2 March, the dragon will leave Oriel y Parc to parade through St Davids to celebrate the patron saint of Wales. Come and take part…if you dare!
“Anyone can join the parade or line the streets to support the event and we’d encourage everyone to wear anything that celebrates Welsh culture to help kick off the St David’s Day weekend in style.”
As part of Visit Wales’s Random Acts of Welshness campaign, visitors to Oriel y Parc during the week leading up to the Dragon Parade will also be in with a chance of receiving a free bunch of daffodils, with a limited number also being given out at Carew Castle and Castell Henllys during this period. Bunches will be handed out on a first come, first served basis.
