Oriel y Parc opens its doors to a world of peace and tranquillity

A new exhibition, Tangnefedd Rhyngom: Peace Between Us, opens at Oriel y Parc, National Park Discovery Centre in St Davids this March. Featuring the work of Jackie Morris and Elly Morgan, the exhibition invites visitors to explore the theme of peace, creating an opportunity for visitors to pause, reflect, and connect with the quiet beauty of the world around them.

The exhibition brings together two distinct artistic approaches to peace. Jackie Morris, an illustrator, artist, and writer best known for The Lost Words and The Lost Spells, presents a series of prints depicting painted doves, using her signature style to convey peace as a dynamic force. In contrast, Elly Morgan, known for her intricate ceramic work, offers a tactile interpretation of peace through her ceramic doves, which draw inspiration from Pembrokeshire’s natural landscapes.

Rachel Perkins, Manager of Oriel y Parc, said:

“Together, their works create an inspiring dialogue about peace, connection, and reflection in a world that often moves too fast. These pieces offer a space to slow down and consider peace not just as an idea but as something we can actively experience and share. The exhibition invites us to pause and reflect on our own connections to the world around us and reminds us of the importance of quiet moments in an otherwise hectic life.”

In celebration of World Poetry Day on Saturday 22 March, Jackie Morris will host a special event, Words of Peace with Jackie Morris, from 2pm to 3pm. This free event, which includes a talk and a Q&A session, will provide deeper insight into the exhibition and the themes that inspire her work. Following the discussion, attendees will have the chance to reflect quietly among the artist’s creations. A selection of Jackie’s books, including The Lost Words, Y Geiriau Diflanedig, and The Lost Spells, will also be available to purchase, with signed copies available during the event.

Following on from this, Elly Morgan will lead a family-friendly workshop, Wings of Peace, from 11am to 3pm on Sunday 23 March. This drop-in session invites participants of all ages to contribute to a collaborative installation using recycled materials and acrylic paints. Through creativity, visitors will have the opportunity to express their own thoughts on peace and become part of the exhibition itself.

Tangnefedd Rhyngom: Peace Between Us by Jackie Morris and Elly Morgan will be on display at Oriel y Parc until Sunday 27 April.
