Spooky half-term fun at Carew Castle this Halloween
Carew Castle, one of Pembrokeshire’s most ghostly landmarks, is preparing for an unforgettable Halloween experience this half-term, with a variety of thrilling events for all ages. From spine-tingling ghost tours to immersive storytelling adventures, this award-winning historic site offers something for everyone during the spooky season.
The Sorcerer’s Quest invites younger visitors to explore the Castle grounds in search of hidden magical items. Those who find them all will earn the title of Master Sorcerer. The quest will run from Saturday 26 October to Sunday 3 November, from 10am to 4pm, and costs £2 per child, plus standard admission fees.
For those seeking a spookier adventure, the Creepy Mill returns, inviting brave souls to enter the Tidal Mill and navigate through its dark, eerie corridors. With plenty of surprises lurking in the shadows, this haunted house experience is recommended for ages 4 and up, with parental discretion advised. Included free with normal admission, it will be open from Saturday 26 October to Sunday 3 November. Children must be supervised at all times.
Families can also enjoy a Halloween Ghost Tour, where they’ll hear spine-chilling stories of ghostly sightings and eerie encounters as they traverse the castle. Scheduled from Monday 28 October until Thursday 31 October, from 4.30pm to 5.30pm, tickets are priced at £8.50 for adults and £6.50 for children aged 5 and up. At 1pm on Monday 28 and Tuesday 29 October, an interactive storytelling adventure led by best-selling author Oliver McNeil will take place at the Castle. In The Storymaster’s Tales: Dracodeep Dungeon, participants will control the fate of their hero in a world of dragons, treasure, and traps. Tickets for this unique experience are available for £6 per person. Children must be accompanied by a paying adult, and tickets to the Castle must be purchased separately.
The Room on the Broom: Storytelling Workshop will see Carew’s resident witch bring Julia Donaldson’s beloved tale to life through interactive storytelling, crafts and spellcasting. This magical session is set for Thursday 31 October and Friday 1 November at 11am and 2pm, with a fee of £3 per child. Advance booking is required, and standard admission applies.
Finally, for the truly brave, a Halloween Paranormal Investigation will be held, led by experts from ‘Science Beyond the Grave.’ Participants will use cutting-edge investigation equipment and traditional methods, such as Ouija boards, to explore the Castle’s supernatural side. This event is scheduled for Thursday 31 October from 6pm to 10pm, costing £40 per person. It is suitable for ages 18 and over, and advance booking is essential.
Nest Tearoom will be open throughout half-term, serving an indulgent selection of delicious refreshments and seasonal treats in a cosy setting, where visitors can relax and recharge before continuing their Halloween adventures.
